Home beer making is a little something I first of all got into while I was still at school.

Homebrew beer was all the rage at the time with dozens of different homemade beer kits at hand in nearly all of the shops and chemist stores.

I and group of friends would get together and go and buy 1 or oftentimes several home beer making kits, routinely a few weeks in advance of the beginning of the school summer break so it would be ready for the kick off of the summer months holidays, when we would camp in our gardens, get drunk on manky homebrew beer and puke in each others boots or shoes.

So the key reason why did we get into home beer making?

Well a wide array of main reasons.

Most important we were beneath the legal beer drinking age but we were A bit of a wild bunch and liked to get drunk so home beer brewing was a straight forward way for us to have just about never ending ability to get to highly strong homemade beer.

Secondly even though common, regular beer from the off licence was cheap, it was still too costly for us schoolkids to be able to buy enough for a few of us to be able to go out and get an adequate amount for a special event.

Thirdly it transformed into a fun (and profitable) hobby.

To kick off with our beer making efforts resulted in some pretty ghastly brews, foul tasting, cloudy (like a dirty river in full flood), full of sediment and almost guaranteed to make even the most steel stomached of us vomit after just a few bottles.

Gradually though, after working and trying out pretty much every home beer brewing Kit on the market and trial and error with different brewing techniques we started to learn that home beer making could really give rise to better beer than that out there commercially.

We learned how to brew commercial quality beer, Of course for most of us everything that we can do well will often become something that we enjoy and as I have grow to be a good beer drinker these two hobbies (brewing and drinking) go with each other perfectly. It's just a pity it took me so long to get to the place my beer was at least as good as the mass produced beer.

Thank goodness beer aficionados now do not need such a long and stomach churning educational curve before they can become an expert in home beer brewing as there are plenty of very good and informational websites dedicated to home beer making.
